The Kanstul Story In 1981, Zigmant Kanstul founded Kanstul Musical Instruments, building fine brasswinds both under his own name and for venerable marques like F. But the story didn’t start there. Zig’s career as a brassmaker began in 1952, at F.E. Courtois Flugelhorn buy, order or pick-up? Order online today!

Antoine Courtois 157 Professional Bb Flugelhorn Lacquer Finish With Courtois Soft Case and Mouthpiece If you already know your Flugels you'll know that Courtois is one of the leading manufacturers with their instruments used by many top Jazz and Brass Band players. They are famous for their free blowing characteristic and rich dark tone.
You can read a review at /reviews/products/inst006.asp#.UL3JaYPZZmg (This is of the 154, but I believe the 157 is the same but with a 160mm bell diameter.) Also see /reviews/g98-courtois.html Serial No. I'm not sure what age that makes it but it has the AC monogram disc on the main stay so that might give a clue. Technical info is as follows: Bore: 10.50mm (.413') Bell material: brass Bell diameter: 160mm (6.3') Direct Air Column Monel Valves; Top Sprung 3rd Valve Slide Trigger 3 Water Keys The valves are very smooth with good compression and the slides and trigger are all free.
There is virtually no wear on the lacquer, there is one barely noticeable ding on the main tube, and only a few tiny scratches. But the first valve has some discoloration where it joins the fixed tube, I suspect from heat used at some time to free it, and the bell shows some signs of a repair. The only visual signs are some slight shading of the lacquer about 1 cm wide and a line over a bit less than a quarter of the circumference of the bell (inside and out). If you run your figures along the bell you can just notice that the contour is not perfect. I've tried to show these in the photographs.
Frankly I think they make it look much worse than it is! The case is in good condition.
It has a separate pocket for music and removable back straps. I'll include a Stork Custom FLS6 mouthpiece in excellent condition. If you have any questions please contact me.
You are very welcome to come and see/try the instrument (indeed I'd encourage it) before bidding. I am on the Dorset coast between Lyme Regis and Axminster. I would much prefer the successful bidder to collect the instrument but will wrap it carefully and send by courier if you wish. Alternatively, I'll deliver it within 50 miles of home for 20p per mile.
It might also be possible to deliver it to the Cheltenham area as I go there from time to time. If you're interested in this option please contact me before bidding to ensure I can do it within an acceptable time frame. Payment by Paypal, cleared cheque or cash on collection, please These horns cost around £2,000 new so you could get a bargain.
